An air fryer heating element does not need to stay on continuously to maintain the selected temperature. Many models cycle heating while a fan circulates air. A heating indicator turning on and off can therefore be normal. The important distinction is between controlled heating cycles and the entire appliance unexpectedly losing operation.

The controller responds to temperature

The air fryer senses temperature and adjusts heating according to its program. In a simple on-off arrangement, the element runs when more heat is needed and stops when the control target is satisfied. Other designs can regulate differently. Food and airflow change the task

Do not defeat a drawer interlock to observe the element or insert loose material that can contact it. Temperature at one location is not automatically the same as temperature throughout the food. Whole-unit shutdown is a different symptom
