These simplified examples show why the functions complement each other. They are not diagnostic tests to reproduce at home, and real faults can activate more than one protection mechanism.

Use the trip information to guide qualified diagnosis

Write down the device model, the documented trip indication, the loads in use, and when the event occurred. A breaker that includes multiple protection functions may provide a manufacturer-specific indicator or recall procedure. Follow that documentation rather than interpreting every trip as an overload. Never replace a protective device with a simpler type just to silence an unexplained problem.
